DINO DON’S DINOSAURIUM AT GRANITE RUN MALL TO RAISE FUNDS FOR LOCAL SCHOOLS WHILE HELPING KIDS LEARN ABOUT DINOSAURS

Media, PA – October 24, 2011 – These days, parents and teachers everywhere are stretching tight budgets ever tighter. So a little help is more than a little welcome. And beginning November 5th, a bit of help is on the way to Delaware County elementary schools from a surprising – and certainly major in size! – source: the Dinosaurs of Dino Don’s Dinosaurium!

As a way of helping to fulfill his mission to teach and inspire kids everywhere about the dinosaur world, “Dino Don” Lessem, noted educator, author and world-renowned expert who created the dinosaurs for the JURASSIC PARK film, together with the management of Granite Run Mall, will be generating funds to help local teachers and students throughout Delaware County. With the opening on Saturday November 5 of DINO DON’S DINOSAURIUM at Granite Run Mall, the first such Dinosaur experience in a shopping Mall in the region, $1 from every ticket sold will be donated each week to a selected Delaware County Dinosaur School of the Week!

The first four schools to be designated as Delaware County Dinosaur Schools of the Week are:

  • Media Elementary School                 November 5 - 11
  • Indian Lane Elementary School       November 12-18
  • Glenwood Elementary School         November 19 -25
  • Rose Tree Elementary School         November 26-December 2

"I"m so gratified that Granite Run Mall is working with the Dinosaurium to give back to area schools, said Lessem. “It means we are giving kids more learning opportunities on top of what they’ll get from the Dinosaurium itself."

Developed as a first-come, first-served program, teachers (and school principals as well) who are interested in making their school a recipient can simply email their request to Dino Don, Inc’s Education Coordinator Julie Flower, at julieflower@dinodon.com. Schools will be selected in order of Request Submissions and a beneficiary check will subsequently be sent to every elementary school chosen as Dinosaur School of the Week. Selected schools will be posted online at www.dinodonsdinosaurium as well as in Dino Don’s Dinosaurium itself.

Stated Granite Run Mall’s Director of Marketing, Aubrey Proud, "We are looking forward to seeing lots of kids and their families at the Mall to experience the Dinosaurium, and we’re delighted to join Dino Don to donate $1.00 from every admission ticket to a local elementary school."

The brainchild of explorer, author, excavator of the world"s largest dinosaurs, and owner of America"s largest

private collection of dinosaurs, “Dino Don” Lessem, the DINOSAURIUM – a hybrid museum / under-the-Big-Top-show, will provide kids, families and students of all ages the opportunity to see dinosaurs up close and experience dinosaurs as never before – to see them, hear them and even smell them!

Featuring extensive displays of dinosaur fossils, interactive activities, and videos, as well as a dozen of the Deadliest Dinos anywhere, DINO DON’S DINOSAURIUM is jam-packed with all things dinosaur-related, including the opportunity to:

  • Experience the evolution of dinosaurs and their world across the Mesozoic world.
  • Feel the floor-shaking impact in a recreation of the asteroid that was the possible cause of the extinction of the dinosaurs!
  • Witness the Battling Behemoths in a Dinosaur "Boxing Match" as an ancient 20-ft long relative of Stegosaurus faces off with its arch-enemy, the equally big and far more nasty Monolophosaurus -- named for his single bony head crest. The two battled to the death 165 million years ago in China. Now, bony but fierce, they are back for a long-awaited rematch!
  • See The Velociraptor, the infamous villain of Jurassic Park, as it attacks a young duckbilled dinosaur, acting out a struggle that took place in the Gobi Desert 80 million years ago.
  • Skull Parade –Come face to face with killer dinosaurs! Compare the deadly heads of Allosaurus, and the last, smartest and deadliest of the carnivores, the tyrannosaurs - Albertosaurus and Tyrannosaurus rex.
  • Listen to the Yunnanosaurus - This gentle 20-foot-long plant eater is eager to greet you and explain its herbivorous lifestyle!
  • Dig for a Dinosaur – Excavate fossils as paleontologists do on a Dinosaur Dig in an actual DIG PIT!
  • Become a Dinosaur Hunter in the Shooting Gallery
  • And Even Examine a Living Dinosaur – Really!

Both fun and fascinating, the mission behind the uniquely playful DINOSAURIUM is to provide an unforgettable educational experience – enabling students and their teachers to learn together about the evolution of dinosaurs and the world in which they lived, via large-screen videos, touching real dinosaur fossils and much more.  Field trips are being encouraged and expected to be frequent and the exhibits will change every few months to allow for new experiences for visitors.

“Not only are these Dinosaurs far more awesome than any movie,” says Lessem, but from an educational perspective, Dinosaurs are a window, especially for kids, into all of science. By making this exciting and entertaining, the DINOSAURIUM opens that window wider than ever.”

Located on the lower level of the Mall adjacent to Center Court, DINO DON’S DINOSAURIUM will open to the public on Saturday, November 5. The museum hours are 10am-7pm Monday through Saturday and 11am-6pm on Sunday. Tickets are $4 for children, $8 for adults.

Via his company ExhibitsRex, Inc. based in Media, PA, Dino Don, a long-time resident of Delaware County, has created the most popular touring dinosaur exhibitions in science museums across North America.
